Open Age (Saturday) End of Season Report 2008/09
Saturday Open Age Team Season Report
The team was formed due to a number of players who were in the first ever Upton F C under 11`s side when the club was formed in 1994. The season started with 4 successive draws coupled with a loss in the 3rd round of the Wirral Junior Cup. Eventually the team achieved their first win of the season beating Meliora Cognito 5-2, the following game resulted in the team’s first loss of the season 3-2 by the league leaders Sheridan’s. The team then went four games unbeaten before losing 1-0 to Towers in the Regent Cup after extra time. When the weather became inclement in December & January the conditions did not suit the teams passing game resulting in losing 3 games and drawing one. The team then bounced back showing character playing the rest of the season unbeaten which they claimed runners up in the league and booked a place in the final of the Victory Cup.
The cup final against Bronze Social was played in wet conditions and also there were factors out of our control that led to losing 4-3. Unfortunately we did not have the services of our leading scorer, we came across a referee that we had not had all season and at least 4 crucial decisions went against us, and our opponents were able to field a side strengthened by players from their West Cheshire Team, but in the Upton spirit although downcast we took the defeat on the chin.
League Runners Up – Played 20 – Won 12 – Drew 4 – Lost 4 – GF 73 – GA 47 – Pts 28
Victory Cup Finalists
I would like to convey my thanks to Dave Taylor & Dave Worth for their support throughout the season, I would like to express to the team how proud I am with the way they have conducted themselves and played throughout the season.
And finally I would like to convey my sincere thanks to the Management Committee of Upton FC for the opportunity to come back into football management with the club after quite a long sabbatical from the game.
Steve, Dave & Dave.
Under 12 Win 08/09 League ………..at last
After a very long and protracted decision making process the under 12 Wallasey Junior League title was awarded to Upton F.C. following the award of points for an abandoned game during last season. Due to the unfortunate events the matter had to be dealt with by Cheshire County F.A. and the Wallasey League Management Committee.
The trophy and winners medals were presented by Wirral District Assistant Secretary and Upton Vice Chair Kev Mighall to the delighted players. Manager Steve Turk and Assistant Eric Cull should be congratulated on a great achievement and for the way in which they have dealt with the whole matter. The decision was kept from the players until their return to second half of pre season training and the reaction to the announcement was brilliant.
On behalf of everyone at Upton F.C. – WELL DONE AND GOOD LUCK FOR 2009/10 SEASON
