Under 14 Girls Put up Brave Fight in Final
Upton Under 14 Girls ended their season with a Challenge Cup Final against a very good Manor Bullets side at a rain soaked Glen last week. The girls gave their all but couldn’t get past a strong Manor defence and eventually went down to defeat despite their best efforts. It’s been a tough year for the girls with short numbers on players and no keeper shown by 4 different goalies in the final so to reach a cup final was a great achievement, well done girls for a great effort
Under 12 Girls Cup Final Joy
Upton Under 12 Girls today completed a fantastic season, fresh from a second place finish in the league they took on Manor in the Knockout Cup Final. The game was likely to be close after both league games finished in draws but it was Upton who started strongly and took a first half lead. The second half was end to end and some great defending kept Manor out before a great finish saw Upton secure the game 2-0. This was a fantastic performance by the girls in pretty awful windy conditions and they were a credit to the club, well done girls enjoy the day.
Under 10′s Penalty Agony
Upton Under 10′s today produced a fantastic effort in the Challenge Cup Final against Peninsula Stars. The first 10 minutes of the game did not start well as Upton found themselves 2-0 down but they fought back brilliantly to level the game at 2-2. There were chances at both ends as the tension grew but the match finished 2-2 at full time. A further period of extra time was played and some frantic goal mouth scrambles ensued but no more goals were scored and penalties it was. All the lads deserve great credit for stepping forward in terrible windy conditions and both teams had chances to win the shoot out before finally Peninsula emerged with the victory. It was a great effort by the Upton lads and everyone was very proud of you today.
Under 12 Boys So Close in Final
The Under 12 Boys put up a great effort in the Presidents Cup Final today. In awful weather conditions at the Glen they came up against a Wirral Scorpions side that had already beaten them 3 times in the league this season. The lads were however really confident of an upset and started the game well before falling 2 goals behind. The lads didn’t give up and pulled a goal back before conceding again to go in 3-1 down at half time. The second half performance was one to make everyone proud as they pinned Scorpions back in their half reducing the score to 3-2. As the tension grew Upton had a goal disallowed for offside and continued to press forward in search of the equaliser. Despite all their efforts however time ran out but the lads can be very proud of their efforts today in what was another excellent final.
Under 16 Girls Just Pipped in Final
The Under 16 Girls played their part in a fantastic Knock Out Cup Final against Irby at the Glen. Trailing 2-0 they pulled a goal back before half time but then fell 3-1 behind in the second half. The Girls never gave in and staged a great comeback to level at 3-3 and it was anyone’s game at this point. There were chances at both ends but unfortunately it was Irby that grabbed the decisive goal to win 4-3. Well done to all the girls for a fantastic effort you did yourselves and the club proud.

Under 15 Challenge Cup Winners
Upton Under 15′s tonight won the challenge cup beating Wallasey Wanderers 2-1 in a tight game at Ashville FC. Upton took an early lead with a goal from Aaron Owens and led 1-0 at half time thanks to Wallasey firing an injury time penalty over the bar. In the second half Wallasey did find a leveller but from that point Upton took over and finished the game really strongly pouring forward. With ten minutes remaining a foul by the keeper 30 yards from goal gave Upton a free kick and Sean Walker fired a shot into the top corner a goal worthy of winning any game. Well done to Simon, Aaron and all the boys for a great effort bringing another trophy back to the club.
Under 14 Knockout Cup Winners
Upton Under 14′s won the Knockout Cup for the second year running after a dramatic penalty shoot out win against Wallasey Wanderers at the weekend. At the end of full time the score was 0-0 and after a further 20 minutes of extra time the teams were still locked at 1-1 so penalties it was. No one would have predicted just how good both teams were under pressure as goal after goal was scored and every parent prayed that their son wasnt the one to miss. Eventually a Wallasey penalty was saved and Upton won 16-15 to claim the cup. This was a magnificent effort from all the lads involved with the team and a big thankyou to the massive support we received from other members of the club as well as the families and friends of the players.
