Mini Soccer
The Under 7’s won their game and raised eyebrows after a convincing 5-0 win over New Brighton Saints. After 2 games trying to get used to the league and playing competitive football, the team pulled together and not only managed a win but kept a clean sheet thanks to some good saves and a solid defence. The win was managed due to 3 goals from Ashton Ventre, a cool freekick from hard working Matthew Sutton, who got his just deserve and a brilliant strike from Daniel Robinson. A big well done to Ryan Lester who was voted man of the match by the opposing team.
The Under 8’s had another good win 7-2 over Manor Coyotes with goals from Man of Match Joe Ryan, Cameron Parry 3, Aaron Clausen 2 & Luke O Keefe
The Under 9’s following last weeks winning start, made it 2 out of 2 with another convincing performance. However, both teams started slowly, and like last season it took a while for the lads to settle into their stride. In the first ten minutes a number of chances were created, but unfortunately none were converted. The final pass was not there, or the shots were scuffed rather than hit cleanly. However, the game was being controlled in midfield by Tom and Jack. At the back Philip, Callum and Andrew were defusing any attacks from Scorpions with relative ease. Then a couple of goals by Alex and Callum gave the lads the lead they definitely deserved. Both goals were the end product of some good passing moves, and were dispatched with some crisp finishing. Two soon became three with Jack finding the net a few minutes later. Scorpions then seemed to come to life, and it took a couple of great saves by Alfie in one on one situations to keep them out. The lads came quickly out of the blocks in the second half, and produced a number of chances with some good passing play. We didn’t have to wait long for the fourth goal, scored by Tom, after a great solo run. Then, like last week, the lads seemed to switch off for a few minutes. This resulted in Scorpions firing two quick goals. The lads came straight back and created more chances, and indeed had a goal denied after a shot came down off the bar and looked to be over the line. No more goals ensued, and the game ended in a 4 – 2 win for the lads, who continue their impressive start to the season
The Under 10’s got their first point of the season with a 2-2 draw with Greenleas Jets with goals from Reece Gannon and Man of Match Reece Pirie.
Girls
Under 10s - Having not had enough players to field a team two weeks ago, it was a welcome sight to have 10 players registered in time for this match against Oxton Girls. Against a physically bigger team, the girls put in a great effort but ended up losing 2 – 0. Rebecca Owen was player of the match, and with good numbers in the squad now, we are hopeful that the team can develop and progress from here
Under 12s and Under 12 Rangers – the first “derby” match of the season, and Rangers showed that they are quickly learning about playing together by putting up a great performance against their more experienced club mates. They carved out a number of chances and deservedly scored theirfirst goal of the season when Yasmin finshed well in the second half. However, the Under 12s ran out 4 – 1 winners in the end with goals from Jess Farrell (2), Elizabeth Sullivan and Charlotte Carroll, to maintain their 100% start to the season. Jess Farrell was player of the match for the Under 12s, Anna Pippard for the Under 12 Rangers. It was great to see both teams huddled together after the final whistle for a joint “U – P – T- O – N” chant, carrying on the team spirit from last season
Under 14s - this was always going to be a tough fixture against Manor, who are firm favourites to win this division. However, the girls started off brilliantly, probably getting the better of the first half in a tight game, before a lapse of concentration after 26 minutes let in Manor for a well worked goal. A messy second goal early in the second half looked to give Manor clear daylight, but an own goal from an Isabel Nolan corner put Upton right back inthe game. Unfortunately, Manor immediatley struck back with an unfortunate deflection and they went on to win 5 – 1 as Upton tired. That said, the score did not truly reflect the game – Sarah was fantastic in goal and Becky and Ceri (with Brittany late on) worked tirelessly in defence. Jodie combined her skilfull attacking play with some brilliant covering runs to help out at the back, whilst Isabel hassled and worked hard up front to earn a well deserved player of the match award. Leah, Poppy and Katie also put in plenty of effort on the wings, but what we lacked overall was Manor’s willingness to attack the ball and the second ball. Hopefully we can get a result next time.
Under 16s did not have a game, as the opposition could not field a team
Boys
The Under 11’s continued their 100% start with a close win 2-1 over Olympic with Brendan Doherty grabbing both goals and Jamie Kavanagh voted Man of Match
The Under 12’s also made it 3 out of 3 with a convincing 15-1 win over Wallasey Wanderers with goals from John Adediran 5, Josh Smith 3, Ewan Nolan 2, Jack Foley, Jacob Ireland, Thomas Maher, Will Hellon was Man of Match.
The Under 13’s made it 2 wins in a row with a 2-0 win over Oldershaw
The Under 14’s beat Glenavon 2-1 in the District Cup with goals from Tyler Smith & Charlie Weir with Harry Ashcroft Man of Match
The Under 15’s made it 4 from 4 beating Glenavon 2-1 with goals from, Chris Turk & Man of Match Joe Murray.
The Under 16’s had no game.
Youth Team
The Youth Team made it 5 out of 5 in the league with a 3-0 win over Neston Nomads to remain in 2nd place in the league..
Open Age
The Open Age having lost every game so far defied the odds to beat the league leaders 2-1 with a great victory.

Mini Soccer
The Under 7’s lost their game to Manor Rangers but each game they play will see an improvement as they get used to playing games.
The Under 8’s beat Hope Farm in a good performance with goals from Aaron Clausen and 2 each from Joe Ryan & Cameron Parry, Carter Peers was Man of Match
The Under 9’s after the big disappointment of last week’s game being called off at the last minute, were raring to start their season with a good win, and that is exactly what they did. Right from the first whistle the lads were on the front foot, and produced a number of good attacks. Unfortunately, due to a combination of bad luck and wayward finishing the good play was not rewarded with the opening goal they deserved. However, we did see the first goal just after half way through the first half. Good build up play using the wings produced an opportunity for Alex to break free on the right hand side of the box, and fire in to the opposite corner of the net. By now the midfield was being dominated by Tom, with Callum and Dylan making good runs down the wings, and more chances came and went. At the other end of the pitch Philip was breaking up the odd attack that Shaftsbury mounted. However, a brief lack of concentration by the lads just before halftime allowed Shaftsbury into the match when they scored. The second half started much the same as the first with our lads on the attack right from the kick off, and it wasn’t long before we were back in front. Again good build up play, with some good passing found Jack free as he laid on a good ball for Callum to smash into the net. This was followed a few minutes later by the third goal, which was a great turn and shot from the edge of the box by Tom. At this stage the score could have been 6 or 7 if the lads had taken their chances. Shaftsbury did rally in the second half, and Alfie in goal did make a couple of vital saves to keep them out. Both teams saw good opportunities thwarted by the woodwork in the closing stages, however the final score ended 3 -1 to Upton. This was a great start to the season for the lads, and with the dominance they displayed in the match could have been even better
The Under 10’s lost 3-2 to FC Spartans Claret in another tight game with Connor Jones getting both goals and Man of Match
Girls
Under 10s had their first game of the season, having been unable to field a team last week. With only the bare 7 available, there were no substitutes. Irby ran out 3-0 winners but each one of the players gave 100% we could not have asked for more from them. They all battled hard for the ball on a hot morning. We now have a few more players for the next game which should make it easier. We have a lot to take into training. With the commitment shown it won’t be long before our first win. Well done to Amelia Smith who was awarded player of the match.
Under 12 Rangers are a mixture of last year’s under 10s with some new faces to competitive in the Wallasey JFL. It is always going to take time to settle in as a new team, and against Rakers Belles they were coming up against experienced opposition. 6 – 0 down at half time, they put in a great second half performance, forcing a couple of great saves from the impressive Rakers keeper before tiring late on to concede another 2 goals. Plenty of hard work around the pitch, but Anna Pippard fully deserved her player of the match award.
Under 12s came up against Rakers, who are likely to be one of the teams to challenge for top honours in this division. A clinical finish from distance by Elizabeth Sullivan opened the scoring and by half time Upton were 4 up. Rakers played well but the all round work rate from Upton kept chances to a minimum, with great performances all over the pitch. A solitary goal was added in the second half for a 5 – 0 win. Elizabeth Sullivan and Jess Farrell scored 2 each, and Shannon Navarro the other. Elizabeth Sullivan was player of the match.
Under 14s had two draws in the league against Irby last year, and we knew this was likely to be a difficult fixture early in the season. Isabel Nolan and Jodie Williams opened the scoring with superbly taken goals, but Irby came back into it and it took two great saves from Sarah in one on one situations to keep the score at 4 – 2 to Upton at half time. Irby changed their keeper in the second half, and Upton took command with a string of well taken goals, starting to play some good passing football. Irby scored a further 3 late on, but Upton were too far ahead, running out 12 – 5 winners. Jodie Williams deservedly picked up her second player of the match award and scored 5, Isabel Nolan 3, Brittany White, Katie Murray, Leah McNay and Sarah Buckley (on a brief cameo out of goal) scored one each. Special mention to Katie Murray and Becky Pritchard-Howarth who have come up from under 12s this year, and have both settled in quickly and put in great performances
Under 16s were without manager Pete McNay this week, but thanks to Steve Bateman and Paula Croft for stepping in and taking the team. On all accounts, they were unlucky to lose 5 – 4 against Wallasey Wanderers in an even contest. Abbie Bateman and Lucy McKeown scored two each, and Louise O’Brien was awarded player of the match
