The Under 9’s –  lost to Greenleas depiteupton being the better team. we kept possesion, won every tackle and defended excellently. unfortunately greenleas scored 3 magnificent goals which theupton goal keeper who had a fantastic game could not stop them from going in. the team keeps improving every week now and will continue to do so. Luke o Keefe was Man of Match

Under 10s recorded their highest scoring win with a comprehensive 12 – 1 win at New Brighton Saints. Scorers were Tessie Nickson (4); Libby Gahan (3); Charlie Scudder (3); and Mia Donaldson (2). Tessie Nickson was player of the match

Under 12s – went to  high flying Rakers, a team that has played together for 2 or 3 seasons. The greater experience of the home team showed as they ran out 12 – 0 winners. Upton’s player of the match was Sophie Wilson

Under 14s sprinted to a decisive lead by half time against Waverton. However, the away team improved considerably in the second half, and Upton found it hard to impose themselves in the same way that they had in the first half. Still, it ended with a comfortable 9 – 3 win, goals coming from Shannon Navarro (3); Katie Murray (2); Charlotte Carroll (2); Caitlin Quinn; and Olivia Radford. Shannon Navarro was player of the match

No game for the under 16s this week

The Under 13’s – No Game

The Under 14’s – lost their first game of the season 5-0 to Wirral Rangers with Tom Wilson Man of Match

The Under 15’s – Our fifth game of this seasons campaign resulted in another victory and was a 100% better than the previous weeks performance, we started well and took the game to a HB, resulting in some good early shots on goal that their keeper done well to save, we looked solid at the back, comfortable in midfield and dangerous up front, inevitably we did score after 15 minutes from Joey Hamm who pounced on some slack defending to prod the ball home from 6 yards, it was good to see that the lads instead of sitting back on this went for a second and shortly after, the fantastic work rate and effort from Ryan Fleming paid off when his shot from 15 yards beat the keeper to make it 2-0. We looked sharp and I was pleased to see that our work rate increased even after this second goal, which resulted in a third goal from Alex Ward, a very similar goal to Flemos drilled in underneath the keeper, at 3-0 it looked quite safe and the ref blew his whistle for half time.

Second half started and right from the start HB came straight at us, a rollocking of some sorts must have been given to them at half time as they looked a better and brighter team, it took us by surprise I think and we slightly panicked with us giving loose balls away and losing the midfield battle, it was no surprise then that they scored quite easily after 5 minutes and we knew we had to step our game up, this continued for a further 10 minutes or so with us defending and trying to get a foot hold on the game, after about 20 minutes we did settle down and started to play some good football, confidence came back into the team and we should of scored with efforts from Ryan Fleming, Christian Rule and Jack Rhodes, but their keeper was playing out of his skin and producing some wonderful saves, however we did score a fourth through Jack Rhodes, after a wonderful pass from Joe Hamm, Jack like greased lightning got onto it and coolly slotted it past their keeper 4-1, I was happy at this stage and would of took this score line, but in the last minute after conceding a corner, Dylan unfortunately dropped the cross and Jack Rhodes smashed it into his own net 4-2.

This is how the score stayed and the game finished 4-2, we could have had a bagful today but I was happy more with the performance than the score line, we won quite comfortably and that’s good enough for me. I would like to pay special mention to Liam Siddorn today, he sustained a nasty injury today early in the first half, and unfortunately the HB lad he tackled had to go to hospital, thankfully he is ok, but credit to Liam he played through the injury and had a fantastic game, getting my man of the match award so well done to him for his efforts today.

Finally well done lads another win and hopefully it will continue, long way to go yet and teams will get better as the season progresses, so keep it up lads.[1]

The Under 16’s – had a great 10-1 win over Hoylake with goals from Callum Mernock 5, Joe Murray 3 & Alex Pitt 2 with Tyler Brace Man of Match.

Girls

Under 10s – with 2 new additions to the squad (and twins too!!) 9 players were available for the game against league newcomers Peninsula Belles. On a fairly heavy pitch, both teams fought out a compelling game which was described afterwards by the referee as the best under 10 girls game she had ever been in charge of! The game ended in a 2 -2 draw with Libby Gahan and player of the match Tessie Nickson scoring Upton’s goals

Under 12s have had a difficult start to the season, with low numbers forcing the cancellation of games, and only 5 players at the only game played so far. Two new recuits, Ena and Evelyn, played ther first league games ever, and it was great to see the effort from all the players despite losing 7 – 1 to Oxton. Ellen McGowan scored the Upton goal, and newcomer Ena Kililiku was player of the match

Under 14s did not have a game this week

Under 16s  met a full strength Birkenhead Ladies team, After a 1 – 0 win in pre-season, we knew this would be a close run affair and so it turned out to be. After a first half shaded by Birkenhead, Upton probably had the better chances in the second half, hitting the bar twice. That said, a low cross managed to evade the touch that would have given Birkenhead a win 5 minutes from the end of a compelling match. A great game which ended 0 – 0, which was a fair result for both teams. Molly Johns was player of the match for Upton

The Under 15’s –  third game of this seasons campaign was another fantastic victory against Shore Villa 7-1, we only had the bare 11 lads today with Alex Ennion going substitute suffering from a sore hamstring, but the lads knuckled down and gave a good account of themselves, we started the strongest with their goalkeeper pulling off some wonderful saves in the opening 10 minutes, with all the pressure in was inevitable that we would score and after about 15 minutes, Alex Ward chased a ball knocked forward, their goalkeeper hesitated, Alex didn’t and he was able to knock the ball over his head into an open goal, shortly after it was 2-0 as Jordan Taylor who put in a great cross but was fumbled by the goalkeeper to put it into his own net, Shore Villa tried to compete with us but our midfield was too strong and Tyler Smith made it 3-0 before the half with a solo effort to cap off a great first half performance by Upton.

Second half was very much like the first, dominated by Upton, but credit to Villa always trying to make a game of it, after 10 minutes of the second period, Christian Rule scored his first and our fourth goal of the game to seal the victory, Ryan fleming was too strong for their central defender and after bullying his way through several tackles launched a venomous effort from inside the box into the top corner to score the goal of the day and make it 5-0, time was passing and I made several substitutions to try and give everyone a piece of the game, after about 35 minutes, Jordan played a lovely ball into Jack Rhodes who rounded the keeper to make it 6-0, a little bit of poor discipline started creeping into our game, which I have noticed over the past few weeks, as all of a sudden I see our defenders playing centre forward and visa versa with our forwards, I take responsibility for this as it is down to me, and I don’t really like it as our shape goes all to pot and mistakes happen, this will stop as regardless of the scoreline and the opposition we in future will start and finish with the players who are accustomed to their natural positions, however with only minutes remaining Corey Taylor rounded off his man of the match performance with our 7th goal a great individual effort that earned praise even from the opposition supporters, however with virtually the last kick of the game as has happened in  the last 2 games, we lost our composure and discipline at the back, Shore Villa gave it one final push and we conceded for the third week running a silly and unnecessary goal, fair play to Villa and who could deny them this consolation.

Again lads great performance, as I said we can only keep beating who are in front of you and we must concentrate on the bigger games ahead, we must focus on our performances and keep it up, an added bonus for today was that Glenavon dropped a point against Peninsula Stars, so the ball is firmly in our court lads if we want this title.

The Under 16’s – were given a rare heavy defeat by Cheshire champions Vauxhalls in the district cup losing 8-1 with a goal from George Thomson,  Man of Match Tom Murphy

The Under 15’s– PENINSULA STARS 1 – 7 UptonFC

This was our second game of the campaign against our old foes Peninsula Stars, who we know from experience always give a 100% and will always offer you a competitive game, again with a full squad of 15 players the game started, kicking downhill, we tended to over run things and it was stalemate for the first 10 minutes, we looked the stronger team but Peninsula had some tricky and tall lads so they posed a threat particularly at set pieces, however after 12 minutes Jack Rhodes like grease lightning lost his marker and drilled home his first of 3 for the afternoon, from a great cross from Christian, Joe Abraham scored a cracking header and we were cruising at 2.0, Jack just before the half made it 3.0 and effectively unless things went drastically wrong this was going to be our second win of the season, second half started and again as in the first game, with 4 subs I chopped and changed formations to try and give everyone a game, a few moans and groans were coming from the lads as they left the field, but I can understand they want to play the full game, early into the second half, Joe Abraham bundled in his second from a fine corner from Christian and he also got on the score sheet as Joe Hamm un selfishly passed to him when he could of scored himself, making it 5.0, Jack Rhodes rounded of a great performance with a well taken goal to give him his hat trick and the hard working Corey Taylor found the net with his first goal of the campaign a wonderful strike from 18 yards.

The game again finished withPeninsulascoring the last goal. Again blotting our copy book with a lapse in defence and the score finished 7-1

We are top of the league at this stage, scored 19 goals and conceded 2, what more can I say, if I was honest I would of liked the 2 games to have been a bit tougher to test us more, but as the old saying goes you can only beat what is in front of you, and I am extremely pleased with the lads performance so far, but hope as I have stated complacency does not creep into our game. We may have a tougher test this weekend at we take on Shore Villa, not that I believe they are any better than who we have played only because we may only have the bare 11, Joe Abraham and Jack Hopkins are going to watch Man united beat Liverpool, Joe Hamm is in Blackpool and Alex Enion is struggling with a troublesome hamstring, so given circumstances like this it is a good job we have a healthy squad of 15 good footballers

The Under 16’s – were drawing 2-2 with NBS before the referee abandoned the game due to problems with the NBS line, Upton goals were from Joe Murray & Man of Match Morgan Woods

The Under 9’s –  started the season with a great 3-1 win over Birkenhead Youth with Man of Match Joe Ryan grabbing a hat trick.

The Under 10’s –  went down to a 1-0 defeat in a closely fought opening game with Peninsula Comets, Luke Pitt was Man of Match

Girls

Under 10s – unfortunately, only 6 players were available for the first match of the season, but the team got off to a fantastic start with a 4 – 0 win away to Oxton Girls. Scorers were Mia Donaldson, Tessie Nickson, Amelia Smith and Libby Gahan, who was also player of the match

Under 12s –  only 4 players were registered and available for the kick off so we had to concede the game to Manor

Under 14s – a new season started with a tough fixture against Manor Jets. Manor led the game 2 – 0 and 4 – 2 before Anna Pippard put Upton ahead for the first time with minutes to go. Unfortunately, the girls could not hold on until the final whistle, and Manor equalised right at the end. The result was fair to the efforts of both teams and it was a good start for Upton with what is, effectively, a team made up from members of three teams last year. Scorers for Upton were Anna Pippard (2), Charlotte Carroll, Olivia Radford and Katie Murray, whilst Charlotte McNay was player of the match.

Under 16s – the players had last played in the same team three years ago, so it was pleasing to see them start to gel quickly in a 9 – 0 win over Greenleas. The visitors worked hard but Upton kept chances to a minimum whilst creating plenty of good chances at the other end. Scorers were Leah McNay (4), Jodie Williams (2), Hannah Smith, Poppy Buckley and Aira Temporal, who was also player of the match

The Under 11’s – had their first game in the new 9 v 9 format and despite small numbers and tired legs pulled off a great 5-2 win against Delta Colts. Connor Jones led the way with a hat trick and further goals from Jack Torpey and Man of Match Joe Farrell sealed the win.

The Under 13’s – lost a tight opening game 1-0 to Glenavon (Details to follow)

The Under 14’s – had an opening day 3-0 win against Manor Milan with goals from Dan Cardus, Declan Smith & Mike Cooper

The Under 15’s– LISCARD PANTHERS  1 – 12 UPTONFC.

This was our first game of the season in this new league and we got off to a great start winning the game 12-1, the game was quite even for the first 15 minutes as both teams eager to please tried to stamp their authority on the game, however after several misses, Upton did score through Ryan Fleming, a blistering shot from 20 yards out, this gave us confidence and Adam Sunners scored shortly after, Liscard by now were running out of steam and Alex Ward added to their woes when he picked up from a poor back pass and scored our third goal, the game was effectively over by now and I made several substitutions to try and give everyone a good proportion of the game, half time loomed and it remained at 3.0

Second started as the first finished with Upton dominating play, Jordan Taylor, scored his first of three for the afternoon, as did Christian Rule, shortly after both lads doubled their scores to make it 7.0, again players where substituted quite liberally to give everyone a good run about, Tyler waded in with a typical Tyler Smith effort, beating about six men before prodding the ball home and Jack Rhodes got his first of the campaign with a good well taken effort, Liscard were down and out by now and Liam Siddorn, pushing forward from defence got the 10th of the game and was delighted with his effort, the only thing left was who was going to take home the match ball between Christian and Jordan for their hat tricks, and the chance fell to Jordan when after Joe Abraham was up ended in the box grabbed the ball and easily put away the penalty to make it 11-0 and his hat trick, Christian was not to be un done as before the end he too grabbed his hat trick to round off a  great performance, the only disappointing thing was conceded in the final minute, whilst the guy was so far offside he was chatting to our keeper, Liscard scored their solitary effort, but who could deny them a goal.

This was a great performance by the lads and has set the standard for the season, I hope the games are a little harder as complacency will set in and when the tougher games come along, we need to be alert, but after some of the beatings we took last season it was good to give one out, well done lads.

The Under 16’s – won a tight game against Manor 1-0 with a last minute winner from Man of Match Alex Pitt
