Girls
Under 10s continued their upward curve despite losing 4 – 2 to Manor Lightning. Just a couple of “mad minutes” after half time, when Manor scored 3 goals quickly, let the game go away, but as ever the girls battled hard and it is good to see them getting closer to teams who beat them by wider margins early in the season, and also scoring goals. Ellie Johns and Lucy Evans scored, and Tessie Nickson was player of the match.
Under 12 Rangers No Game
Under 12s No Game
Under 14s were down to 7 because of other commitments, and played Wallasey Wanderers who had 7 players for the first time in a while. Katie Murray opened the scoring very early on and the greater age and experience overall of the Upton team was evident throughout the game. Upton ran out 17 – 0 winners, which is harsh on the opposition keeper, who made a number of good saves but had little protection. Recorded scorers were Rebecca Pritchard-Howarth (4); Jodie Williams and Isabel Nolan (3) each; Sarah Buckley and Katie Murray (2 each); and Charlotte Byrne and Ceri Duff. Jodie Williams was player of the match

Under 10s were due to play a first round Knockout Cu tie against New Brighton Saints, but the pitch did not thaw out in time and the match was postponed by the referee.
Under 12 Rangers had the unenviable task of being drawn against top of the league Manor Torpedoes in the first round of the Knockout Cup. Manor continued their 100% record this year with a 9 – 0 success but the girls will know they played a very strong team and, not at full strength themselves, put in a battling performance. Elizabeth Morgan was player of the match
Under 12s got through to the second round of the cup with a 4 – 1 win over Oxton Ladies. Not at their most fluent in this game, they still came through with goals from Elizabeth Sullivan (2), Shannon Navarro and player of the match Jess Farrell
Under 14s had a bye in the first round of the cup and played Waverton in a league fixture. Most of Waverton’s team are in the lower year of the age range, whereas most of Upton’s players are older, and the age and experience told as Upton ran out comfortable winners. Waverton did show plenty of spirit, especially in the first half, and Sarah had to be alert in goal to make a few saves, including one from a very well taken free kick. In addition to one own goal, Upton scorers were Jodie Williams (3); Isabel Nolan (2); Leah McNay (2); Poppy Buckley; Katie Murray; Rebecca Pritchard-Howarth; Charlotte Byrne and player of the match Sarah Buckley (not a “Tim Howard” goal, but from playing out in the second half). Manor await next week.

The Under 8’s – Won 2-0 against Glenavon Eagles with goals from Joe Ryan & Man of Match, Aaron Clausen
The Under 9’s beat Greenleas 3-1 with goals from Callum Palmer, Alex Clarke & Dylan Davies with Tom Carrington Man of Match An excellent game saw the lads get off to a winning start in 2012. Right from the first whistle they looked raring to go after the Christmas break, and were first to the ball in the opening minutes. With the wind blustering around the conditions were testing, but the lads settled down well and produced some nice passing football. With the lads taking control of the game the chances started to arrive, but unfortunately, both good goalkeeping and unlucky finishing meant we could not take the lead. However the breakthrough came just before midway through the first half. The ball broke to Andrew just outside the Greenleas box, and he fired his shot goalwards. The ball looked to be going wide, but Alex hooked an overhead shot into the goal. It was only what the lads deserved as they controlled the game. The second was not long in coming, with an impressive passing move finding Callum in space, and he fired a well struck shot into the corner of the net. The boys were now well on top, and the third came a few minutes later, when Dylan displayed some neat footwork to outfox the Greenleas defence before slotting his shot into the net. This seemed to fire up the opposition, and they produced a couple of decent attacks, but some stout defending by Andrew and Philip kept them at bay, and when they did get through Alfie produced a fine save to tip round the post. The second half did not produce anymore goals for our lads, but a number of chances came and went, with the Greenleas goalie making a number of fine saves to keep the score down. A disputable penalty halfway through the second half saw Greenleas pull a goal back, and Will, coming on in goal in the second period, also produced a couple of decent saves to keep them at bay. With some tough games coming in the next few weeks, the lads needed to get a good win under their belts, and they achieved this with some good football.
The Under 10’s had a rare 0-0 draw against Manor with Reece Pirie Man of Match
Girls
Under 10s – Manager Mark reported a huge improvement which saw the girls lose 2 – 0 against New Ferry Rangers, a team to whom they had lost 10 – 1 last time. With the team continuing to work hard, we hope that they are repaid for their efforts with some wins in the near future – hopefully a good start in the cup next week! Ellie Johns was player of the match.
Under 12 Rangers also showed how much they have come on in the last couple of months, reversing a 4 – 0 away defeat earlier in the season to win 4 – 1 at home to Waverton. Quickly into their stride, Upton raced into an early 3 – 0 lead through Anna Pippard (2) and Elizabeth Morgan, before conceding a bit of a soft goal before half time. The second half saw both teams have chances, before Yasmin Deplidge managed to squeeze a shot past the Waverton keeper to restore the three goal advantage. Anna Pippard was player of the match but mention must be made of the efforts of all the players – Yasmin; Elizabeth; Zoe; Georgia; Sophie; Mollie; Ellen; and new signing Kati-Mai – to achieve a win against a good passing team.
Under 12s their twelfth win of the season in the return fixture against Rakers Belles. Although the younger of the two Rakers teams in the division, they are certainly as good as their elders and always provide tough opposition. Two goals from Elizabeth Sullivan and one from player of the match Charlotte Carroll secured a 3 – 0 away win to keep the pressure on Manor Torpedoes at the top of the table.
Under 14s came into the game level on points with Wirral Hawks, who had deservedly won 5 -1 at Overchurch earlier in the season. On the sloping Victoria Park pitch, Upton played the first half uphill and (largely) against the wind. Katie Murray opened the scoring with a lofted shot over the keeper, but Hawks equalised when their excellent striker followed up on a shot well saved by Sarah, and fired home the loose ball. Both sides worked hard to gain an advantage, and with a couple of minutes to go to half time, Isabel Nolan’s pass found Brittany White unmarked in the area, and she calmly picked her spot. With the downhill advantage in the second half, Upton scored through Jodie Williams, Poppy Buckley, Isabel Nolan and, in her first game for the club, Charlotte Byrne. Hawks scored one in reply for a 6 – 2 win to Upton. Whilst Hawks did hit the bar twice, our defence was excellent today, with Ceri Duff, player of the match Rebecca Pritchard-Howarth and later Brittany White all doing great work there
Under 16s had drawn both games against Greenleas earlier in the season, but got of to a good start to 2012 with a 5 – 0 win in their third league meeting. Abbie Bateman and Louise O’Brien scored 2 each, and Aira Temporal the other, whilst Leah McAteer was player of the match

Under 10s faced a stiff task against league leaders Manor Exocets but fought really hard. However, unbeaten Manor were too strong and won 9 – 0. Lucy Evans was player of the match
Under 12 Rangers continued their good run of form with a great 3 -3 draw against Oxton Ladies. With only 6 players in the first half, Yasmin typified the spirit in the team by rushing straight from an exam to make the second half. Anna Pippard scored 2 including a late equaliser, and was player of the match; Ellen McGowan scored the other Upton goal.
Under 12s proved too strong for Oxton Girls, running out 8 – 0 winners. Jess Farrell scored 4 and was player of the match. Morgan Mayes, Shannon Navarro, Jasmine Pugh and Elizabeth Sullivan scored one each.
Under 14s took an early lead against Irby Colts when Poppy Buckley cut in from the left and fired home. Further goals from Isabel Nolan (3), Leah McNay and player of the match Jodie Williams, together with a clean sheet, secured a good win.
Under 16s lost 2 – 1 against Wallasey Wanderers, with Louise O’Brien scoring the Upton goal, and Katie Rutter being awarded player of the match
3rd December
Under 10s faced a physically bigger Oxton team on a very wet Overchurch pitch and again worked hard without reward, Oxton winning 3 – 0. Rebecca Owen was player of the match.
Under 12 Rangers were without manager Jim this week, but under Colin and Pete from our other under 12 team, continued their progress with a fine 4 – 2 win over Manor Missiles. The improvement in the last few weeks is there for all to see with every player on the pitch playing a big part in the win. Zoe Hazlehurst scored a deserved first goal of the season, Yasmin Deplidge scored 2, whilst Anna Pippard finished the scoring with a fine shot from distance, as well as being awarded player of the match.
Under 12s produced a great display of passing to run out 9 – 1 winners against Oxton Ladies. The scoreline does not recognise a number of excellent saves by the Oxton keeper and their goal was well taken and deserved. However, Upton created numerous opportunities through sheer quality of passing play and the team really are playing well from front to back. Jess Farrell scored 4 and was player of the match; Shannon Navarro scored 2; Olivia Radford, Caitlin Quinn and Elizabeth Sullivan one each
Under 14s were to play Manor at Poulton Vics but the referee arrived in a torrential downpour, and took the entirely reasonable decision at the time that the game should be postponed
Under 16s got back into winning ways at the Delph, beating Birkenhead Youth 7 – 0. Both teams played well considering the cold rain and strong wind. Louise O’Brien, Hannah Smith and Aira Temporal scored two each, and Abbie Bateman the other goal, whilst Lauren McGarrity was player of the match.

Under 14s were at home to Heygarth Utd in the reverse fixture of the first game of the season. The visitors were lively and played some good football, before Leah McNay broke the deadlock late in the first half with a fine finish from Brittany White’s corner. Leah scored a second early in the second half, before Heygarth pulled one back. The game was closely matched until an emphatic finish from Jodie Williams, and a goal from Isabel Nolan saw Upton finish 4 -1 winners. Rebecca Pritchard-Howarth was deservedly player of the match.
Under 16s played Waverton for the third time this season, the visitors having kindly agreed to reverse the fixture so that coach and parents could recover from our Xmas party the night before. A good game of football, with both sides playing well, was enjoyed by the home and away supporters, but Upton ended up winning 5 – 1 with goals from Louise O’Brien (2); Abbie Bateman; Lauren McGarrity; and Lucy McKeown, who was also player of the match.

Under 10s - continued their improvement with a narrow 1 – 0 defeat at Irby. The girls played brilliantly and were rightly pleased with thier own performance. The opposition coach commented on how much the team had improved since they last met. Ellie Johns was player of the match
Under 12 Rangers also showed their continuing improvement by recording their first win, and well deserved it was. Upton were leading 1- 0 at half time through player of the match Anna Pippard, but Irby equalised from a great free kick early in the second. The girls kept their heads up and two Elizabeth Morgan goals secured a 3 – 1 win. Like the under 10s, they are coming on really well, and we are proud of the performances of both teams.
Under 12s really got into gear against Heygarth United, playing some good passing football to win 7 – 1. Jess Farrell was player of the match and scored 2; Olivia Radford scored 2; and Elizabeth Sullivan, Jasmine Pugh, and Morgan Mayes scored 1 each

The Under 8’s lost 4-0 but the lads battled hard and did there best to get themselves a goal. Cameron Parry was the man of the match whilst Sam Whelan made some excellent saves.
The Under 9’s Unfortunately this week saw our unbeaten start to the season come to an end. However, the lads produced a great performance and were unlucky to lose. A win would have seen the lads move above the opposition, and on the performance this could well have happened. We started very well, and pushed Glenavon back with some good strong tackling coupled with good wing play. A number of chances came, but unfortunately the ball just wouldn’t find the net. The Glenavon goalie was playing well and was holding on to shots coming in. With Chris playing very well in the middle, and Callum and Dylan doing some fine work on the wings, the chances kept coming and we thought a goal would soon come. Glenavon themselves produced some good chances, but Andrew was very solid at the back, and when they did get past him Alfie was there to again produce some great saves. Luke upfront was also playing well and was unluck not to score, and Alex hit the inside of the post, but the ball bounced out kindly for Glenavon, so the half ended goalless. The second half was much the same with Upton pressing, and Glenavon hitting us on the break. Unfortunately Glenavon struck twice in a short time, which was harsh for the lads, as both goals were very fortuitous. The first dropped kindly in the box from a corner, and with our lads trying to clear, it cannoned off a couple of players before falling nicely for them to poke in. The second was even luckier. A quick breakaway found Alfie in a one on one situation with their striker, and Alfie saved excellently only to see the ball rebound off their striker to go over the line. This didn’t deter the lads, who made all the pushing, and again Alex was unlucky to see another quick strike come back off the post. It just wasn’t our day as the final whistle went, but the lads could be very proud of their performance, and on another day would have won this quite easily. Man of the Match Callum Palmer

Under 14s – were away at Greenleas, and ran out 5 – 2 winners. Isabel Nolan scored 3 and was player of the match, whilst Jodie Williams scored 2.
