Under 10s Girls End of Season Report 2007/08

June 23, 2008 · Filed Under Upton FC - Under 10

We started the season with an invitational tournament organised by Cheshire FA, involving teams from Wirral, Cheshire, Liverpool and Lancashire, to celebrate the Women’s World Cup. Played in a league format, the team remained undefeated throughout the day, and came first.

The league season started with a close 4–3 win away at Irby, and the team did not look back from there. Even the loss of our first choice striker Lucy (when her family emigrated to Australia in November) did not stop the team from getting result after result, to finish an excellent second in the table.

At the end of the season we had won 14 league games and one cup game, and lost 2 league games and a thrilling cup semi final. All defeats were at the hand of the league champions, Manor Bullets, and then only narrowly in close, hard fought games.

The starting point for a good season is the ability to defend, and the team conceded just 13 goals in a total of 18 league and cup matches, which is a magnificent achievement.

As is the case for all of our girls teams, each year some are lost to the next age group and new players have to be brought in. It is a credit to all the players that they have worked hard together this year to achieve so much. It has been very rewarding to see the improvement as individuals and as a team throughout the season. Most importantly, we hope that that the girls have all have enjoyed playing for the team.

Many thanks to all the parents for their support and help through the year, in all weathers. Most of all, thank you to all the players – Amy, Emma, Isabel, Jodie, Lara, Lucy, Natasha, Olivia, Sarah and Shakia - for making this such an enjoyable season to be involved with the team.
