Under 10s Rangers End of Season Report 2007/08
It would be fair to say that this season has been one of complete success for Upton Rangers Under 10s. The season started difficultly as the lads were still in the process of getting to know each other having only officially formed 6 months previously and some new additions to the squad meant it took time for the team to gel.
Despite some early defeats, we started to look more organised and became a very difficult team to beat. Despite only collecting 4 wins and 1 draw from 20 league games, we have only been beaten comfortably by Manor and Greenleas and I think this highlights the fact that with a little more luck and good fortune, our record could have been so much different.
Compliments have been plentiful from opposition managers and Upton Rangers were a team who could genuinely not be taken lightly. We have also tried to teach the lads to play with the football on the deck and feel this will stand them in good stead as they further their careers in the 11 aside games next year.
Our season highlight would have to be a narrow defeat in the Challenge Cup Semi Final to Wirral Rangers. Leading 1-0 at half time and looking like the only team who could win the game, we managed to allow Wirral back into the game and they snatched an extremely fortuitous winning goal. However, this must not take away from yet another top performance against opposition who finished mid table.
Every week, at Kingsmead or Arrowe Park, we have had our 10 lads and some brothers and sisters joining in. All of this has allowed us all to have a lot of fun for the year. The season finished with all 10 lads representing the club fantastically well on the clubs trip to Everton were we all had a great day.
A pleasure of a team to manage, Danny and myself would like to extend our thanks to the players and parents for their support throughout the year and hard efforts both on and off the pitch. Best of luck for next year.
Keith Leadbetter and Danny Morris
