Under 7s End of Season Report 2007/08

June 23, 2008 · Filed Under Upton FC - Under 7

This season was the first time that the Under 7s had played match football. Having taken a comprehensive beating as Under 6s against last years Under 7s, we wondered what we were letting ourselves in for. But we had nothing to worry about.

At our first training session in July, the same ten players that we had worked with through Saturday morning mini-soccer turned up raring to go. Fortunately we had a ready made squad and we knew that we would be able to rely on them and their parents.

We got off to a great start wining our first match in September 5-1 but came back down to earth with a bump the following week losing 4-1. However we regained our confidence and continued to do well each week until the bad weather set in. Despite having a number of games cancelled the boys continued to work hard in training and we were able to establish their strongest positions. This was quite an achievement because we started with 10 strikers!

We were a little worried that the long break would put us off our stride but again we had nothing to worry about as the boys returned with the same skill and effort that they had shown in the first half of the season.

All of the players have improved greatly since the start of the season both individually and as a team. We have again completed the FA Soccer Skills Programme with all of the boys showing improvement on last year. The commitment of the boys and their parents has been exceptional and we have been lucky to work with them.

By the end of the season we had played 22 games, winning 17, drawing 1 and losing 4. This is a fantastic start for the team and we are looking forward to next season when we hope to build on the success that we have already had.
