Able to change venue, and did really well. They deserved something out of the game for their effort, but 3 late goals for New Brighton Saints gave them a 4 – 0 win that doesn’t reflect how well Upton played

Under 14s – after no game for the last two weekends, it was back into action against Birkenhead Ladies at the Delph. A hard fought, physical match where Upton led 4 – 1 at one stage, before Birkenhead got back to a 5 – 5 draw. Scorers for Upton were Olivia Radford (3) and Rebecca Prichard-Howarth (2), who was also player of the match
Under 16s – also in action against Birkenhead Ladies, and after some confusion over the kick off time, we settled down for another close match after the 0 – 0 draw at the Delph a month ago. A wonder strike from Jodie Williams gave Upton a 1 – 0 lead at half time, and close range finishes to good moves from Isabel Nolan and Leah McNay saw Upton run out 3 – 0 winners. Jodie Williams was player of the match

The Under 11’s – kept up their unbeaten start with a 3-1 win against Olympic thanks to goals from Joe Farrell, Reece Gannon & Connor Jones with Owen Burns Man of Match.
The Under 12’s – won 4-2 against Greenleas with 2 goals from Liam Mcevoy and others from Jamie Johns & Luke Brandscombe with Ben Mcallister Man of Match

The Under 14’s – lost to a last second winner 3-2 to Manor Madrid with goals from Louis Mcadam and Joe Nugent with Mike Cooper Man of Match
The Under 15’s– played Glenavon which was on paper was by far our toughest test of the season so far, ourselves top and Glenavon second with only a point between us so it was winner takes all in today’s game. On a very difficult pitch which had been cut up terribly from the previous game we kicked off, and looked comfortable on the ball in the opening few minutes, the balance looked good and the shape of the team also, we had most of the play but know through bitter experience how much this counts for if you have no goals to show for it. The game trundled along until a fantastic ball from Liam Siddorn all of 30 yards played Tyler Smith in behind the Glenavon defence, Tyler not only had the ability to control the ball but also the coolness to lop the ball over the keeper to make it 1-0 to us, this seemed to knock a bit of sense into Glenavon and they came back into the game and with 10 minutes of the first half remaining finished the stronger team.
Second half started with Upton taking up the ascendancy and looked the stronger team, little changes had been made at half time as the game was tight and I was worried about making too many changes in what was already an excellent performance, however the one change I did make was to bring on Jack Rhodes, this proved to be a good move as mid-way through the half after Jack had just brought of a fantastic save by the goalkeeper had a very tame and unexpected effort from just inside the box, everyone expected the keeper to pick it up and kick it up field, however the keeper made a blunder and allowed the ball to go over his foot into the goal, this was a piece of luck and gratefully accepted. The Upton heads were up by now and our play moved up a gear, we looked good today and this was reflected in the performance of all the lads, with a 2 goal cushion I was able to make the changes I wanted to do all day as everyone wanted a piece of the action, with 10 minutes remaining we were awarded a free kick outside the box, with Joe Abrahams of the pitch at this time, Joey Hamm placed the ball down, sized up the options and planted a smashing free kick just inside the post to make it 3-0.
This game today was our best performance of the season against a very good team, we battled for everything and won most of it, we understood that if we had of lost today it could of seriously dented out title hopes, we still know there is a long way to go yet with some big mountains to climb but this result today together with the fantastic team and individual performance has gone a long way towards winning the league, keep it up lads.. So proud of you all today.
The Under 16’s – also played current leaders Glenavon and came away with a fine 5-1 victory thanks to goals from Tom Murphy, Alex Pitt, Callum Mernock, Joe Murray & Rob Cull with Scott Billington Man of Match.
Youth Team – lost 3-1 to Ridgewood Rangers in cup action

Girls
Under 10s – only six players available against a strong New Ferry team, but the girls managed to take a 1- 0 lead into half time. Understandably, they tired a bit in the second half and ended up losing 3 – 1, but it was a great effort from all concerned. Tessie Nickson scored our goal, and Amelia Smith was player of the match
Under 12s – are having a difficult season, with girls not turning up who played last year, and new faces coming to the league for the first time. The seven available put everything in against Waverton, but ended up losing 5 – 1. Two more new players are due to join and hopefully that will give players a chance to get a breather during the games. Sophie Wilson scored the Upton goal and Ena Kililiku was player of the match.
Under 14s – did not play because it was a closed week for the opposition
Under 16s – played top of the table Wirral Hawks for the first time this season. On the large pitch and playing uphill first half, Upton defended well to keep it to 2 – 0 to the home team at half time. However, for the first 15 minutes of the second half (playing downhill) we didn’t play as we can, and Hawks scored twice again, before Upton clicked into gear at last and started to play a lot better, reducing the deficit to 4 – 2 by the end. Scorers were Aira Temporal and Hannah Smith, and Anna Croft, outstanding at the back with Molly Johns, deservedly got player of the match.

I was away for this game so I cannot really comment on how the game went, as the game progressed both Dave and Denise were telephoning me how the lads were doing, due to a mistake by myself as I thought it was a 2.30 ko the lads turned up atv 2 pm ready to warm up but were asked to kick off immediately, this may well of been the reason for us going 1-0 down shortly into the game, however Christian equalised to make it 1-1, again I believe with some slack defending we found ourselves 2-1 down and I waited hopefully for a quick call back, this came shortly before the break when Alex Ward rattled home the equaliser and this is how it remained until half time.
Second half started I believe very well for us and we commanded the game throughout, Ryan Williams put us ahead with a solo effort that even Lionel Messi would have been proud of and Alex Ward got his second goal of the game, we were dominating proceedings at this stage and Corey Taylor who was our man of the match scored his first of a double for the afternoon, shortly after Joe Abrahams scored his typical 20 yard belter for the goal of the game and just before the end Corey finished proceedings to make it 7-2.
As mentioned earlier although we won this game comfortably some slack mistakes in the first half could of cost us dearly and we must stop making such mistakes, on another day this may well of come to haunt us. But credit to all the lads today, bit like Everton on the day had the bottle and determination to come back from an early set back.
We have by far our toughest task of the season this Sunday when we entertain our old foes Glenavon, we know there abilities and whoever wins this tussle will put them in good stead to who ever wins the title.. lets hope its us, so come we can do it.
