Under 10s played their re-arranged cup semi final against Oxton Girls. As part of the arrangement, our under 12 fixture against Oxton was moved to 11am, but it looked as if the Oxton under 12s had turned up at the original 9.30 kick off such was the disparity in height between the two teams. In a game of few clear cut chances, the Upton players time and time again blocked and tackled and, when Oxton did get through, Rebecca made a number of important saves. 0 – 0 at full time and both sides worked hard for an extra 15 minutes of extra time. Mia broke through late on only for the Oxton keeper to save, and Oxton forced the ball over the line from a corner right at the end for the referee to rule the goal out because he had blown up for full time before the ball went in!! So it came to penalties. Penalties are a rarity at under 10s so neither side had much experience. Rebecca pulled off two great saves but Oxton won 1 – 0. Erin Mooney was player of the match as chosen by Oxton, but every single player deserves great credit for their sheer effort and hard work throughout the game – they fully deserved the ovation from all supporters when they came off the pitch.
Under 12 Rangers had one of their first good results against Oxton Ladies last autumn, when Anna Pippard equalised with virtually the last kick of the game. This was another equally close affair between two well matched sides. Elizabeth Morgan opened the scoring when her shot from distance squeezed in at the near post, but Oxton equalised with a very well taken finish just a few minutes later. The second half saw chances for both sides but no further goals, so the game ended 1 – 1. Zoe Hazlehurst was player of the match
Under 16s played their final league game of the season, against Irby. This was another closely fought game, with both sides playing great football, so the 1 -1 outcome was a fair result overall. Hannah Smith scored for Upton and Aira Temporal was player of the match
