Under 12s had a cup match against Manor Missiles, and were made to work very hard to get through to the semi finals. Jess Farrell opened the scoring shortly before half time with a low drilled shot, and Shannon Navarro pounced from close range early in the second. However, despite the girls’ efforts, Upton could not score again and won 2 – 0. Elizabeth Sullivan was player of the match.
Under 14s were also in cup action against Heygarth Utd. Upton had already won 2 league matches against their opponents, but both games were well contested and close. This time, Upton opened up an early 2 – 0 lead with a brace from Leah McNay, and after Heygarth went close after a great run and finish clipped the Upton bar, a third Upton strike seemed to break Heygarth’s resistance. Upton went in at half time with an unassailable lead. Heygarth pulled one back in the second half, but the girls put in a good all round performance to run out 7 – 1 winners. Leah McNay scored 4 and was player of the match; Jodie Williams, Isabel Nolan and Katie Murray scored 1 each.
